MargaretSalon Owner & Senior Stylist
Hair and Make-up have been my passion for 20 years. I began as an apprentice for Marty Jackson and with a solid foundation began my lifelong quest for learning. I have had advanced training with Graham Web, Rita Rusk, Martin Parsons, Vidal Sassoon, Wayne Grund, Vivian McKinder and I am completely hooked on color with Roy Peters of Redken. Makeup, to me is Gods gift to women and the ability to apply it correctly and teach my clients how to use it has been a great source of joy. I truly believe everyone is born with great potential and deserves to be treated like Royalty at every opportunity. Owning Scalped Salon for the last 12 years has given me the opportunity to come in contact with the most wonderful people. Scalped Salon & Spa will be a new venture that will enable myself and the wonderful team of professionals I will be surrounded by to create the ultimate environment for beauty and rejuvenation.

I’ve been a stylist for fifteen years. Hair and makeup was in my blood early on in my life. I’d either cut my own hair or my Barbies hair, or I had tons of my mom’s makeup on at the age of ten. She wouldn’t let me leave the house looking like that of course. Straight out of High School, I jumped right into a two year apprenticeship at a local salon and received my Cosmetology license. Craving more education, I heard about Scalped Salon and how progressive they were. Once Margaret brought me into her family, I immediately dove into further training starting with Michael Cole’s Boot Camp where he taught me the ultimate in customer service and how to keep a positive attitude. Graham Webb Academy in Virginia taught me advanced cutting and the famous Scissor Flip. Roy Peters of Redken (The Color God) has helped me to create some of the best color formulas. I’ve also become a Certified Hair Extensionist after training with SO.CAP. Human Hair Extensions. Education is key in being successful in this industry. This is one business where you couldn’t possibly know everything. I learn something new everyday. That is what keeps this business so exciting. I’m eager to offer my clients my talent, skill and sensitivity. I’m equipped and ready to handle any challenges the day may bring.

Hair has always been my passion. I received my cosmetology license through a Votec program at Woodbridge Senior High School. After working in Northern Virginia, I moved to Maryland and obtained my Senior Cosmetology License which enabled me to apprentice many stylists in Calvert County. After receiving advanced training with numerous hair companies such as Framesi, Paul Mitchell and Redken, I opened Hair Priority in Prince Frederick. In December of 2008 my husband and I decided that after 17 years of owning a salon we wanted a simpler life and closed our beloved salon. I love being an employee of Scalped Salon And Spa and spending time with my loyal clients as well as meeting new ones.

My dream of becoming a hairstylist began once I started working at Scalped Salon as a shampoo assistant in high school. I have been working at Scalped Salon since 1998. I have since received my bachelor’s degree in photography from Towson University. I completed my hair licensing requirements at The Fila Academy, a Paul Mitchell Partner School, in Glen Burnie. I have also completed a year long training/assistant program at Scalped Salon with Margaret and Kathleen learning both color and cutting techniques. I have attended advanced classes with Roy Peters, Robert Cromeans, Angus Mitchell, and Winn Claybaugh just to name a few. I also had the privilege of attending The 2005 Paul Mitchell Signature Gathering in Las Vegas. I have completed and received my Certification as a Redken Specialist this year and plan to continue my education further through classes this year. My goal as a hairstylist is to be a “Daymaker”, so that every client I come in contact with feels as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside.

I have always loved the beauty and fashion industry. I grew up watching make-over shows and NYC Fashion Week on TV. After years of feeling unfulfilled in my “career”, I decided to go after my first love and enter the world of beauty. I obtained my license in 2004 from a Paul Mitchell Partner school in Glen Burnie, MD. While attending school at night, I trained in the Assistants Program at Scalped Salon during the day. As a hairdresser, I believe that investing in myself through continuing education and raising my level of skills keeps my business alive. I have attended seminars with Roy Peters; “The Master of Redken Hair Color”. Some of the Scalped girls and I traveled to The 2006 International Beauty Show in NYC and Columbia Beauty Supply’s Ocean City Show in 2008. These shows offer the latest beauty trends; not to mention how fun they are. Who can say they love going to work? ME! When a client tells me that I have made her day, it makes mine. It is a feeling like no other when you truly have made someone feel beautiful, both inside and out. I love knowing that every day may bring me a new client and a chance to make a difference in their day and hopefully develop a lasting hair relationship! Let’s face it, we all know that having a hair crisis can be a day breaker. This is why we are all “Day Makers” here at Scalped Salon and Spa. We want to make your day and give you the experience that you deserve when you walk through the door. I consider myself lucky to spend my days next to a very talented, smart and fun group of women.

Growing up, I was your typical “girly-girl princess”.  I enjoyed primping my dolls as well as myself.  When I reached
adolescence, I forced my little sisters to sit still in front of the mirror while I tried out numerous hair styles on them.  After graduating from high school, I attended community college but when I couldn’t decide on a major that was fulfilling to me, I decided to pursue my first love; Hair!  I chose to study at Graham Webb Academy in Arlington, Virginia because of it’s fabulous reputation.  During my training, I learned all aspects of hair design and participated in numerous fashion shows and advanced education classes.  Immediately after graduating from the Graham Webb Academy, I began working at Scalped Salon And Spa.  Not only is it located near my home town, but it is also the top salon in the area and the surrounding counties.  I have continued my education by completing the training program with Margaret Thompson.  I’ve also attended advanced classes and hair shows that provided me with new techniques and the latest trends.  You can never know too much! Putting a smile on my clients face is what makes me feel fulfilled and happy.  Creating a unique style that is suited for each client and teaching them how to duplicate it at home is my ultimate goal.  It’s my way of giving you fabulous hair everyday; not just the day you leave my chair.

After many years of sitting behind a desk, I realized that I was ignoring my true calling; to become a hair stylist. My mother was a stylist for over 20 years and I aspired to follow in her footsteps. I became a licensed Cosmetologist after graduating from Blades School of Hair Design in California, Maryland. Since becoming a part of the Scalped Salon and Spa team in August of 2008, I completed Margaret’s training program as well as attended classes from the top artists in the beauty industry. I am fortunate to be able to work with a group of amazing women who love to share their knowledge. It’s been a rewarding experience so far and I am excited by the opportunity to provide my clients with advanced cutting and color techniques along with premium hair care products.

I am a graduate of The Calvert Career Center.  I obtained my license in 2006 and I am attending advanced training for special occasion updos, cutting and color.  I also love performing manicures and pedicures.  My specialty is updos; something I absolutely enjoy.  Making people feel better about themselves is very gratifying.  It began when my mother a diagnosed with cancer.  Through this personal experience, I learned how to make her feel beautiful during both a physically and emotionally difficult time.  This lead me to the realization that becoming a cosmetologist was something I had to pursue.  I wanted to be able to make more women look and feel beautiful.  I am happy and fulfilled by my career choice and Scalped Salon and Spa gives me the opportunity to offer you the ultimate in customer service.

I was born with the beauty industry in my blood.  For anyone who doesn’t know already, I am Margaret Thompson’s daughter.  As a child, I would help out at my mom’s first salon in Upper Marlboro, whether it was entertaining the clients or shampooing.  Kathleen remembers a time when I was only five and I would float around the salon; talking to everyone and even offering hair advice.  Although I had been in the salon all of my life, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to become a stylist.  It wasn’t until after High School that I decided to give it a try.  I love it!  I completed the training program, led by my mom and I assisted Ami Eggleton.  I want to soak up as much knowledge as possible.  I can’t imagine a better place than Scalped Salon and Spa; where I have many stylists to learn from, along with opportunities for advanced classes.  I am excited to be able to work with clients and educate them on their hair and the latest products.

I grew up in the beauty industry! As a child my mother worked for a very successful salon in Washington DC and on Saturdays she would take her daughters to work. This is where I learned the value of customer service. I can remember from a young age the thrill that came over me from the salon activity. I have been in management since the early 1980’s and I have learned the value of a customers appreciation through the customers pleasing. I have a love for Astrology and Tarot and have been known to give a pretty good short reading. My thirst for the spirit in others makes my journey clear. I am also board certified through the State of Maryland to perform pedicures. The way to ones SOLE is through touch.

PamelaRegistered Massage Practitioner and Reiki Master
I became interested in massage in 1992 after witnessing the effects of lymph node drainage through massage on my daughter. The doctors were amazed by the changes in her health. I was busy raising our daughter, supporting my husband’s military career and learning life lessons before I decided that it was my turn to embark on a new career outside of the home. Realizing how powerful massage can be and recognizing my love for nurturing and working with people led me to The Baltimore School Of Massage. I feel so blessed to be able to do what I love. I specialize in Swedish, Deep Tissue and Hot Stone Massage as well as Reiki, Pregnancy Massage and Cupping. The relaxing and friendly atmosphere is what led me to Scalped Salon and Spa.
Trish TrishRegistered Massage Practitioner and Reiki Master
I have always loved the art of massage! I decided to take my passion and turn it into a career by enrolling in The Potomac Massage Training Institute of Washington, DC. I graduated in 2005  and began my  journey in life through  the love of massage. Being able to aid healing and give compassion to my massage clients is a blessing to me in many ways.  I  am also a volunteer at Walter Reed; bringing massage to wounded soldiers and their families.  It’s important to have a healing and rejuvenating atmosphere for my clients and Scalped Salon and Spa provides a relaxing sanctuary for them. I have been given a great opportunity to work with a wonderful staff that truly cares about their clients.  Trish offers Traditional Massage, Reiki and Massage Cupping.

I attended the Skin Care Center of Alexandria, Virginia. I’ve always been fascinated by the positive effects that regular facials and good products can have on the skin. I love working with people one on one and I am looking forward to sharing my skills and advice with the clients. I offer facials, body scrubs, waxing and makeup. I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with Esthederm skin care products. All of the ladies at Scalped Salon and Spa are beautiful inside and out. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and I’m so happy to be a part of it.

I have been dreaming of working in the beauty industry since  I was a little girl. I have always been the type growing up that  everyone came to for hair and make up advice. So, naturally  I decided to go through a Cosmetology course at my local  high school. After graduating I realized I was more interested  in skin; what makes it glow, what makes it look younger, but  most importantly – how it makes you feel when you look in the mirror.  I searched for an Aesthetics school that is rated top in its field. Von Lee International School of Aesthetics in Reisterstown,  Maryland met all my requirements both personally and professionally. My love affair with skin will be a never ending journey. During my time at Von Lee International School Of Aesthetics,  I received an abundance of education on many topics. I graduated with honors and I am excited to share my  knowledge with clients on how to better the skin their in.

Skip SmithSkip SmithProfessional Make-up Artist
I have been a professional make-up artist for more than 30 years.  After graduating from Saint Mary’s College of Maryland, with a degree in Biology and an avid interest in the theatrical arts I decided to pursue a career in make-up. I honed my make-up skills with intensive studies at the “Research Council of Make-up Artists” headed by the legendary Vincent JR Kehoe, author of many instructional make-up books. Following this training and lots of practice with cosmetic companies and small theater I began work in the film business through a friend of mine. After two films and assorted T.V. productions, including “The West Wing”, I joined the staff at CNN as senior make-up artist. For the past 25 years I have had the privlidge to work with many exciting people including: Larry King, Audrey Hepburn, Frank Sinatra and Sir Anthony Hopkins to name a few. I have also used my skills on various world leaders including the last 8 U.S. Presidents and First Ladies . Now I am excited to begin a new phase in my career with the staff and clients of “Scalped Salon”.  I look forward to sharing my make-up knowledge with you.

MichelleNail Technician
I’ve been a Licensed Nail Technician for 16 years. One day while getting my nails done I became fascinated by the techniques that made them so beautiful. Right then, like a bolt of lightning had struck me, I decided that I had to be on the other side of the manicure table. I love the one-on-one interaction with my clients as much as I love providing nail services for them. I specialize in acrylic nails and pedicures. I use only the finest products and do all my work by hand, never using a drill which can cause burning and discomfort. I take pride in assuring clients that all the utensils used during nail services are hospital grade disinfected, giving them peace of mind about nail and skin infections, which can be quite scary these days. I’ve worked at other salons and spas in the Calvert County area over the years, but I’ve finally found my way home to Scalped Salon and Spa. I’m comfortable and finally at peace. I’m here to stay.
