A native of Calvert County, she always wanted to make people feel better about themselves. She knew she could make anyone look their best with the right make-up and hair style. She apprenticed for two years at a local salon and received her cosmetology license.
Margaret went on to study at Graham Webb Academy in Arlington, Virginia where she was the very first student, eagerly taught by three teachers. Over the next seven years, she learned more, working at The Look in Upper Marlboro and traveling the world to work with masters: Scotland with Rita Rusk; Toronto with Martin Parsons; California with Vidal Sassoon; and Pennsylvania with Vivienne Mackinder. She learned to mix colors with Roy Peters of Redken. In Arlington, she continued annual classes with Gerard Kierns at Graham Webb. They formed a strong bond: to this day, Kierns offers an annual class at Margaret’s Scalped Salon and Spa for her stylists.
In 1994, Margaret opened her first salon, Scalped, in Upper Marlboro. In addition to offering the best in services and products, she focused on training newly licensed stylists to be her assistants. This program continues to be a central part of her work and provides the training needed to staff Scalped with employees competent and confident enough to work under her name. “It’s a source of pride and pure joy when a new assistant completes her first style and thinks she’s the best in the world” says Margaret. The learning atmosphere of the salon creates a sense of teamwork and creative collaboration, with each member helping the newest addition to succeed. Many visitors remark on the great sense of connection felt at Scalped. A former employee called it “a beautiful family.”
The desire to help people be their best has evolved into a real concern for the community beyond her salon. She’s been working for more than 20 years with the American Cancer Society’s “Look Good, Feel Better” program for women going through the challenges of chemotherapy. That led her to volunteer for Calvert Hospice, granting her the privilege to go into people’s homes to give them, what might be the last haircut they’ll receive.
She teaches all her stylists to cultivate the habit of working with people in need. They go with her on Hospice work, shaving heads for chemotherapy patients, and cutting wigs free of charge and creating as pleasant an atmosphere as possible. She is adamant in her belief that every client in Hospice work should get a hug, to feel the warmth of human touch. Not in business in order to shave women’s heads, Margaret still cries after they leave.
In 2006, Margaret moved Scalped to Prince Frederick, adding a spa. She continued her outreach to an ever widening community. Working with a program within Calvert County Community Services, she invited her clients to put gifts under a tree at the salon for families in need. Now in their fifth year, the generosity of the clients allowed Scalped to “adopt” five families, providing food, clothing, and toys to help the families sustain and create holiday traditions. She is thrilled by the support of her clients and the other local businesses that join her in this annual project.
Because her business often focuses on women, aiding The Battered Women’s Center was a logical next step. She’s brought women from the Center to Scalped for anything they wanted: haircuts, color, massages, facials, and nails. Each member of the “team” at Scalped donated their time and abilities to offer all the women a chance to experience a day at the salon like any of one of our clients. At least two outfits for each woman were provided by clients, along with generous money donations, as well. “My clients are amazing,” Margaret says. “All I have to do is ask and they respond.” With their support, she is able to be open to new possibilities to give back to the community. And to continually prove that Calvert County is still a place that people care about one another, and when asked are willing to go beyond the call of duty and extend a caring hand.
For Margaret, it’s all about making people, from clients to employees, both men and women, feel better about themselves and their potential in a beautiful community.
I was born with the beauty industry in my blood. For anyone who doesn’t know already, I am Margaret Thompson’s daughter. As a child, I would help out at my mom’s first salon in Upper Marlboro, whether it was entertaining the clients or shampooing. Kathleen remembers a time when I was only five and I would float around the salon; talking to everyone and even offering hair advice. Although I had been in the salon all of my life, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to become a stylist. It wasn’t until after High School that I decided to give it a try. I love it! I completed the training program, led by my mom and I assisted Ami Eggleton. I want to soak up as much knowledge as possible. I can’t imagine a better place than Scalped Salon and Spa; where I have many stylists to learn from, along with opportunities for advanced classes. I am excited to be able to work with clients and educate them on their hair and the latest products.
Ami’s Career at Scalped Salon began in 1997. She has a passion for the beauty industry and views it as an art. She is outgoing, fun, funky, and stylish. She strives to make every client look fabulous and unique in their own style.
Ami is fantastic with all types of hair services. Her precise cutting techniques will make your style look perfect from every angle. She can complement any cut with a perfect color or seamless highlight.
Ami loves attending advanced education classes and events. It is important to stay up to date with the newest trends and in the forefront of style. Some of the companies and artists she has studied under are Graham Webb, Redken, Paul Mitchell, Goldwell, Roy Peters, Robert Cromeans, Angus Mitchell to name a few.
“I place a high value on listening to my client, understanding their needs and respecting their hair and I strive for unlimited creativity while doing so.”
At your scheduled time together, she will look forward to providing you with the best service and the best hair style that will fit your personality and needs.
I am a graduate of The Calvert Career Center. I obtained my license in 2006 and I am attending advanced training for special occasion updos, cutting and color. I also love performing manicures and pedicures. My specialty is updos; something I absolutely enjoy. Making people feel better about themselves is very gratifying. It began when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. Through this personal experience, I learned how to make her feel beautiful during both a physically and emotionally difficult time. This lead me to the realization that becoming a cosmetologist was something I had to pursue. I wanted to be able to make more women look and feel beautiful. I am happy and fulfilled by my career choice and Scalped Salon and Spa gives me the opportunity to offer you the ultimate in customer service.
Hair has always been a huge passion of mine. As a child, I would spend many hours outside cutting grass with my scissors. While in high school, it only made sense for me to enroll in the cosmetology program at the Calvert Career Center. In 2007, I graduated from the program with a license to practice cosmetology. I am approaching 10 years as a stylist, and I have gained a vast amount of valuable experience in my craft. I have attended multiple classes, some being local and others at the prestigious Goldwell Academy in New York City.
In my free time, I truly enjoy donating my time and services to patients at Calvert Hospice. The greatest part of my career is making women and men feel great about themselves and helping all to see their inner and outer beauty.
I have always loved the beauty and fashion industry. I grew up watching NYC fashion week and makeover shows on TV. I decided to go after that interest and enter the world of beauty. I obtained my license in 2005 from a Paul Mitchell partner school in Maryland. While attending class in the evenings, I trained in the Associate Program with Margaret here at Scalped Salon during the day. As a successful hairdresser, I feel that investing in yourself is key in this industry. I have continued my education from the beginning. To name a few: 11 years ago I attended a color seminar with the famous Roy Peters from Redken; a razor cutting class held by Grund; a workshop from Aquage that included up styles and most recently, accomplishing the first part of a Master Colorist series at the Goldwell Academy in New York. I, along with the rest of my team at Scalped, attend numerous in-salon education all year long to keep up on current trends as well as new additions to Goldwell’s beautiful hair color line. A few years ago, KMS brought in their IQ Cutting class to us; it was 4 days of amazing knowledge that we all soaked up! I am grateful for these classes held right here in Prince Frederick. During my hair journey, I have had 2 beautiful children with my husband and I am busier than ever! Being a mom has changed my life for the better and I enjoy the balance of my home life and career. Every so often though, I get to sneak away for a fun hair show or class out of town!
When a client tells me that I have made their day, it makes mine. I love knowing that every day may bring me a new client, which is a chance to make a difference in their day and to hopefully build a long lasting hair relationship! We call ourselves “Day Makers” here at Scalped Salon and Spa. We want to make your day and give you the experience you deserve when you walk through the door. I consider myself lucky to spend my days “working” next to such a fun, caring and very talented group of women.
Hair has always been my passion. I received my cosmetology license through a Votec program at Woodbridge Senior High School. After working in Northern Virginia, I moved to Maryland and obtained my Senior Cosmetology License which enabled me to apprentice many stylists in Calvert County. After receiving advanced training with numerous hair companies such as Framesi, Paul Mitchell and Redken, I opened Hair Priority in Prince Frederick. In December of 2008 my husband and I decided that after 17 years of owning a salon we wanted a simpler life and closed our beloved salon. I love being an employee of Scalped Salon And Spa and spending time with my loyal clients as well as meeting new ones.
I have wanted to do hair for as long as I can remember. So to make my dream a reality I enrolled into beauty school! After graduating from Graham Webb Academy I started looking for my salon home. I have been working for Scalped Salon for 3 years now and it has been the best decision I could have made! They offer an amazing apprenticeship program, education, and support. I have learned so much from my fellow coworkers while working here, like the importance of a thorough consultation and to always give outstanding customer service. My goal is to always be improving my craft and never stop learning!
I love being able to work with clients! It’s so rewarding when I am able to help them find the perfect haircut, color or style. I can’t think of anything I would love to do more, than to make your day!! I enjoy all areas of this craft but I especially love to do balayages, highlights, blow-outs, haircutting, and updos! I also love being able to pamper clients with manicures and pedicures.
I’ve always loved doing hair. I started cutting my own bangs in middle school after my mom cut them too short one time too many.
I went to cosmetology school in Illinois right after I graduated high school. I’ve been doing hair off and on for 25 years in between raising 3 children.
Updo’s are my specialty but I love every aspect of hairdressing. I can’t imagine doing anything else.
I have had a passion for hair for as long as I can remember, Third Grade to be exact, and always dreamed of doing hair for Movies, Broadway Shows, and Runway Models. However, our lives take us on different paths, but, I was finally able to pursue my hair dreams. I enrolled in Beauty School in Jaunuary 2015 at Blades School of Hair Design. I started my journey at Scalped Salon and Spa in July of 2015 as a Shampoo Tech while I was attending school. In May of 2016, I graduated Blades and became fully licenced in July 2016. Now, I am in the Assistant Program at Scalped Salon and Spa, assisting our stylists with color retouch applications, glazes, blowouts and treatments. In the Assistant Program we continue our education and training with classes taught by our very own stylists, along with homework assignments to prepare us to be the best behind the chair. I look forward to many years working in this amazing industry, continuing my education with classes taught by the top stylists in the country/world, and doing what I love everyday!
For as long as I can remember I have loved making people feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. Hair and makeup was something I got into very young because I was a dancer and it became a huge part of my life. I am very artistic and thrive when I can be creative. I went to beauty school in the county through the Career and Technology Academy located in Prince Frederick. I fell into the arms of an amazing team of driven, sweet, and professional women who have taught me just about everything I know. I started here as my first job when I was 16. Once I became a licensed cosmetologist, I began the associates program in the salon where I was able to learn new skills while perfecting the rest. Since graduating the program, I have become a new talent stylist! I look forward to seeing new faces in my chair!
I’ve always had a love for both hair and makeup. I would experiment with different looks from wigs to eyeshadow. This business is more than beauty to me, I take so much pride in making people look and feel beautiful.
